Our Ethos & Values
A Neuroaffirming and Trauma-Informed Space
At Shining Gems Child Therapy we are neuroaffirming and trauma informed. We know the importance of approaching trauma focused therapy in a holistic way and of incorporating both mind and body. We understand that for children and young people, play and creativeness is innate and a natural form of communicating. We are also aware that many children are highly sensitive to energy and their surrounding environment.
Play and Creativity as
Natural Healing
No matter your age, no matter what you have been through, we all have an inner child and often we carry wounds from very early on. We want to help you to find your inner strength, to feel safe and empowered and comfortable within a therapeutic relationship. We aim to help your inner light to shine again, or to shine that little bit brighter than before.
Family-wide, holistic care
We are a person-centred, trauma focused therapeutic space for young people age 4-17, and their parents/carers. Helping families to begin their journey of healing together, whatever that needs to look like for you, we have an adaptable and integrative approach to therapy. Whether that be trauma focused CBT, play therapy, or a combination of play therapy, DDP/Theraplay informed work, trauma processing, mindfulness and alternative therapies such as aromatherapy, reiki or crystal healing.
Helping children and families to rediscover their light
We know that therapy is, first and foremost, about relationship, but we also know the aim of therapy is not for you to become reliant on us, but to become strong enough to go forward in life with the secure base that trauma focused creative psychotherapy can offer.
We also believe in supporting the body along the way! If adults can access all types of therapy then our young people should have the opportunity to do so in a safe environment as well. That is why at Shining Gems Child Therapy we offer creative psychotherapy for children and young people AS WELL AS holistic therapy for both young people AND their carers.
